Developed low temperature ESR specification
with high reliability chip type aluminum electrolytic capacitors CZ series

As optimized parts for mounting in electronic equipment, particularly in automobile ECUs1 that are inside engine compartments, Nichicon Corporation has developed the CZ series of chip type aluminum electrolytic capacitors for onboard automotive applications. This series has a guaranteed performance of 3000 hours at 125°C (2000 hours for Φ6.3) and -40°C ESR2 specifications (when new and after 2000 hours at 125°C in endurance testing)
 
Overview and development background
In automobiles, in which electronic control is advancing, in order to realize better drivability and interior space, ECUs and various control units are being made more sophisticated and increasingly being placed near the engine room. For the aluminum electrolytic capacitors that are mounted in harsh conditions where they are exposed to temperatures that range widely from cold to hot, high temperature resistance, longer life and higher ripple current resistance are desired. At the same time, greater capacitance and compactness are also sought.
In addition to tolerating severe use environments, the CZ series lineup also responds to demands for greater equipment compactness by allowing surface mounting.
 
Features
Based on technologies that we have developed over the years, this product is able to guarantee a life of 3000 hours (2000 hours for Φ6.3) by utilizing a newly adopted separator and an electrolyte that uses a newly developed low evaporation solvent, and by optimizing the components used. This lifespan is even longer than the current CJ series of chip type high reliability low temperature ESR specification products, which guarantee 2000 hours.
Moreover, in order to handle the vibrations that are characteristic of onboard automotive applications, including in engine rooms, we have made vibration resistant construction possible for sizes Φ8 and larger.
At Nichicon, we are pursuing the development of products that reduce environmental burdens. This series also meets the standards of the RoHS Directive.
