Developed high ripple current smaller-sized screw terminal type
aluminum electrolytic capacitors NC series.

Preface
At Nichicon Corporation, we have recently developed the NC series of screw terminal type aluminum electrolytic capacitors that are guaranteed to operate at 85°C, compact and have high ripple current resistance. Their primary applications are in a variety of industrial machinery, including high voltage inverter circuits for power electronics. We will start mass production of this lineup, which even includes high withstand voltage (500 V rating) products, in October.
We showed these products at CEATEC JAPAN 2010, which was held October 5-9 (Tuesday-Saturday) at the Makuhari Messe International Convention Complex.
 
Overview and development background
As the application of inverters in industrial machinery advances, the demand for screw terminal type aluminum electrolytic capacitors, which are used in control circuits for general purpose inverters and servomotors, is increasing. Furthermore, in the industrial machinery field as well, control circuits are both becoming smaller and having higher outputs. In order to respond to these changes, we have developed the NC series of screw terminal type products that are guaranteed to operate at 85°C, compact and have high ripple current resistance.
 
Features
The NC series incorporates electrolytic foil that has high stability and capacity, an electrolyte with increased long-term stability and electrolytic paper that is low density and has a high withstand voltage. In addition, this series has increased heat dissipation by being compoundless. Moreover, high ripple current resistance has been achieved by using technologies from our highly regarded QR series, which supports high speed charging and discharging. As a result, this series is more compact and has higher ripple current resistance than our existing NX series and NK series, allowing more space conservation to be achieved, particularly in circuits that carry multiple capacitors.

In addition, this lineup of products includes capacitors with maximum rated voltages of 500 V. By allowing circuit voltages and regenerative maximum voltages to be set higher in AC servomotors, inverters and other applications in which sudden charging and recharging is repeated in short periods of time, they can contribute to energy conservation and regeneration. In the future, we will also provide NC series products for power supply applications in solar and wind power generation, which are expected to become increasingly popular, and other fields related to the environment, since greater compactness and higher ripple current resistance will be desired in these fields.
