With greater demands for smaller electronic equipment, Nichicon has developed the UC, VE, and WA/WB series of resin-molded chip-type conductive polymer aluminum solid electrolytic capacitors. The lineup will be on display at the CEATEC JAPAN 2013 exhibition, held at Makuhari Messe, October 1–5 (Tue.–Sat.).

Overview, Background of Development

Aluminum solid electrolytic capacitors using conductive polymer as the electrolyte have superior ESR*. and therefore is perfectfor desktop and notebook PCs, as well computer peripheral equipment, game consoles and digital equipment. With increasing demand for ever smaller and thinner electronics, Nichicon has developed three series of resin-molded chip-type capacitors: the 7.3×4.3×1.9mm (max. height) low-profile/low-ESR "UC" series; the 7.3×4.3×2.8mm (max. height) low-ESR "VE" series; and the 7.3×4.3×4.3mm (max. height) high-capacity/low-ESR "WA/WB" series.

Main Features

Manufactured by forming conductive polymer on uniquely-shaped elements, these series are encased in molded resin to achieve a lineup with maximum heights of 1.9mm, 2.8mm, and 4.3 mm. By optimizing the device structure and conductive polymer shaping methods, we have achieved an ESR as low as 6mΩ, which is equivalent to that of chip-type capacitors employing aluminum casings. Our new shaping methods allow the UC, VE, and WA/WB series parts to be used in electronic products that require low-profile, low-ESR capacitors.
