In response to the demand for smaller and thinner electronic devices, Nichicon Corporation has added the new resin-molded chip type VA series, VB series and UA series to the line-up of conductive polymer aluminum solid electrolytic capacitors. The line-up will be on display at the CEATEC JAPAN 2012 exhibition to be held at Makuhari Messe from 2-6 October (Tues-Sat).

 

Overview, Background of Development

Since aluminum solid electrolytic capacitors that use conductive polymers for cathode materials have superior ESR* characteristics in the high frequency range, they are frequently used in desktop computers, portable computers and their peripherals, as well as in game consoles, digital equipment, etc. In response to the demand for smaller and thinner electronic devices, the resin-molded chip-type standard VA series and a low ESR VB series of size 7.3mm x 4.3mm x 3.0mm max. (height), and a low profile UA series of size 7.3mm x 4.3mm x 2.0mm (height) were developed in addition to the current chip-type, low profile SL series (max. height of 4.5mm) with an exterior aluminum housing.

 

Main Feature

The structure of the chip-type conductive polymer aluminum solid electrolytic capacitor with an exterior aluminum housing is such that the capacitor element, formed by the conductive polymer, is inserted into an aluminum casing and sealed using rubber packing. The VA series / VB series / UA series are made by forming conductive polymer on uniquely-shaped elements and encased in molded resin. They are products which have achieved low profiles, having heights of only 3.0mm / 2.0mm. In addition, by further optimizing traditional methods of shaping conductive polymers, the resin-molded chip with an aluminum electrode foil has achieved one of the highest rated voltages in the industry of 25V. Making the product low profile has made it possible to install in thin electronic devices which was difficult with chip-type housing with an aluminum casing. It can also be used in input circuits of DC-DC converters of electronic devices such as portable computers.
