NICHICON CORPORATION has developed a new electrolyte for aluminum electrolytic capacitor applications that is able to withstand 105ºC 800V. We have also established the technologies necessary for its commercialization and manufacturing. High-voltage power conversion equipment is the target market for this value.
A technical briefing will be conducted at the 33rd Power System exhibition, being held at Makuhari Messe from Wednesday April 18, to Friday, April 20.

Development Background

NICHICON has been developing high-voltage capacitors for many years, and in 2015, it developed a new electrolyte that was able to withstand conditions in excess of 105ºC 750V.
The need for higher withstand voltage in aluminum electrolytic capacitors coupled with high-power and high efficiency at higher temperatures is on the rise especially in the industrial equipment market. In response to these market needs, NICHICON developed this electrolyte. This is the result of joint research with Mie University based on the concept of design and synthesis of electrolytes at the molecular level.

Features

This newly developed electrolyte uses a new dibasic acid designed and synthesized at the molecular level. To identify the optimal structure NICHICON seized upon the correlation of the molecular structure and the required high-voltage withstand and high heat endurance performance. In addition, adjusting the combination of withstand voltage improver and additives enabled electrolyte withstand voltage characteristics of 800V.
Going forward, we will further optimize electrolyte compositions using new electrolytes and accelerate development to provide products with withstand voltage performance in excess of 800V.
